Eggshells are the waste material from the consumption and utilization of households, commercial businesses, and industries. The researcher used eggshells as raw materials for developing a pet food product, which is one of the high-value ago-industrial products. Eggshells are used to produce powdered eggshells that are an additional source of calcium in dog food.

Eggshells are washed, heated with hot air, crushed, and sieved to obtain powdered eggshells. Powdered eggshell is used as one of the ingredients in the production of biscuits for dogs. The biscuits have the right amount of calcium by containing calcium up to approximately 510 milligrams per 100 grams of biscuits. The biscuits also have a high percentage of protein with over 32% protein, while other dog biscuits have a protein content in the range of 10-15%. In terms of the shelf life of eggshell powder, it was found that eggshell powder packed in aluminum foil bags can be stored at room temperature for at least 12 months without detecting pathogenic microorganisms and organisms that cause food spoilage.

Blue Macaw Co., Ltd. sees the importance of commercial use of eggshell powder. Therefore, technology transfer from the researcher was initiated for utilizing the research into commercial use – producing dog biscuits for sale.
